New Field Farm's Online Market:  Harvest begins next week !

Greetings,

The first market will be next Friday, July 3.

You can place your orders beginning Tuesday, June 30 (the website will be updated and ready for ordering by that day.)

Orders should be in by Thursday, July 2 at 8:00. (the sooner the better)

Pick-up will be from 4:30 to 7:30 at the farm and from 5:00 to 8:00 in the lobby of the Union Mill. The entrance to the lobby is across from the back door of Nature’s Green Grocer.

We’ll have carrots, basil, swiss chard, scallions, curly and Italian parsley, arugula, and squash. And maybe shell peas, salad mix, lettuce, and beets, depending on growth rates in this spell of cooler weather. If an item is listed on the website next Tuesday then we’ll have it to offer. If not, then it’s not ready.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Tim

Champaign, OH:  Love Will Keep Us Together

Just stop, ‘cause I really love you…
Stop, I’ll be thinking of you…
Look in my heart…
And let love keep us together, whatever…
(Captain And Tennille – Love Will Keep Us Together)

Yes…your daily dose of 70’s pop music! But, who didn’t know every word to this song as soon as it came on the bubblegum radio station? I was even in a middle school talent show, singing a duet to this AND the song, Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart! My group had super cool bell bottoms, some sort of hats that our mothers made us, and groovy platform shoes. Feathered bangs, and heavily glossed lips…we were on our way!

Anyway, I heard this song on a Pandora station, earlier, and while I was singing it, I immediately thought of this little local market of love.

Love definitely keeps us all together, all groovy, all strong, week after week. It’s a love fest of customers, vendors, volunteers, and the YMCA. It takes a whole lot of love to keep this market running on the level that you have grown to trust, and we have grown to love.

I am opening the market, tonight, once again, for the week! Thank you, to all, who order from us, stay with us, spread the news about us. We are only as strong as our loyal customer base. We love you…it will keep us together!

Just a quick note…this market is your market right before the July 4th holiday. What?? July?? The 4th?? The time just continues to race. But, we are open until Tuesday so that you can get your thoughts together, your plans in order, and do your grilling/baking/spicing it up/vegging out shopping with us!!

Let us take care of all the holiday weekend needs!! You know you love us, you know we bring the local goodness, and you know you want love to keep us together…

Go, order, take the stress out the week, enjoy the holiday…

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Reviews – Laundry Butter
Please feel free to email me your reviews! Here are some from HoneyBerry Naturals customers:
“I purchased the laundry butter and stain stick. I can highly recommend the stick and the butter on laundry( I didn’t use fabric softener and my clothes were soft and so very fresh)… I tried some in my bissel steam cleaner on some really nasty burber carpet and I was in total amazement. This product has so many uses and I love the fact its all natural. Honeyberry naturals is incredible. Cant wait to try my next product I will post pictures of my carpet on their facebook website. AMAZED Thank you so very much!!!”

“The laundry soap and stain sticks are wonderful and work so well! I couldn’t be happier.”

“We love the laundry butter!!!! No longer do I have to wash work clothes twice.Blood, sweat and grime GONE with one wash. The stain stick works wonders with dirty ball hats!!”

“The Laundry Butter is seriously A-MA-ZING! It cleans our clothes better than the commercial detergent I was using. On Sherry’s recommendation, I used it on my stainless steel appliances, which I’d been having great difficulty getting clean and shiny. I’m not kidding—after using the laundry butter on stove fridge, dishwasher, and microwave, they looked brand new! It’s also great for removing soap scum in the shower (we have hard well water and even with a softening system in place the water still leaves scale behind).”

Thank you Diana, Jennifer & Pam for the fans! It was much cooler on Tuesday in the warehouse thanks to the additional fans.

My Daily Bread (repeat)
Due to some health issues they will probably be on the market in 2 weeks. I will send out a reminder. Please keep Dabrielle in your prayers!

Mountain Fresh Creamery (repeat)
We will no longer have Mountain Fresh Creamery on the market. The supplemental feed they give their cows contains GMOs. I am currently looking for a new dairy to provide us low temp pasteurized milk. I will keep you all updated. In the meantime, please consider Cedar Rock Dairy and Lil Tots Estate.

Great Lakes Collagen Info

Great Lakes Gelatin (the Green can) Collagen Hydrolysate (beef kosher) Unflavored

Gelatin (also known as cooked collagen) has wonderful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging qualities, as it helps to fill in the missing amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) in the standard American diet. This is a completely different from the jiggly gelatin product most of us grew up eating as kids.

Homemade bone broth is chock full of gelatin and very nutrient dense but Great Lakes Gelatin- Collagen is a convenient way to get gelatin consistently into your diet.

What is Collagen Hydrolysate?

Hydrolyzed Collagen is the unique combination of amino acids in concentrated levels that promotes rapid re-production of blood cells for healing and conditioning over other proteins especially for bone and joint health care. This low molecular weight protein is easily digested for healthy enrichment in minutes after ingestion. It will not congeal because it has been hydrolyzed for quick assimilation and improved hydration to the connective tissue. Collagen is important to nitrogen balance, now considered an anti-aging product as it supports age related cartilage damage, and collagen loss. source: http://greatlakesgelatin.com/)

How do I use this product?
You can mix it in drinks, shakes, smoothies, or add a tablespoon to your favorite recipe to give it an anti-inflammatory protein boost. It will dissolve in cold liquids very easily.

How Much Do You Need?
Recommended dosage: Take one rounded tablespoon (10-12 g) in the morning, and the same amount before going to bed in the late evening which will help reduce appetite. This product has a low molecular weight so it will dissolve in cold, warm, or hot liquids.

Important Note: Remember not to get too carried away with gelatin. Adding too much too quickly can cause digestive issues: bloating, loss of appetite, stomach ache are just a few side effects.

It’s important to remember that more gelatin is not always better, especially if you are adding it to your diet for the first time.

Gelatin should be used in addition to a nutrient dense diet and not to replace real food like homemade bone broths and grass fed meats.

It is also really important to take this daily. You will see maximum results if you include it in your daily routine.

I have heard dozens of success stories from co-op members and my own family members. Please feel free to email me your personal testimony on your experience with this product!

CSA Farmers Market:  Garlic Scape Recipes!

On the east coast garlic scapes are in demand, in our area not many of us know what to do with them.
Here are a few suggestions.

Garlic Scape Pesto

Appetizer-Snack
Cook time: 45 minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 10 garlic scapes, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cups finely grated Parmesan Reggiano
  • 1/3 cup cup toasted pine nuts (for a variation use black walnuts)
  • 6 Basil leaves
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • Sea salt
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
    Directions
    • Put the scapes, cheese, pine nuts, Basil and half the olive oil in the bowl of a food processor (or use a blender or a mortar and pestle). Whir to chop and blend all the ingredients and then add the remainder of the oil. If you like the texture, stop; if you’d like it a little thinner, add some more oil. Season with salt. If you’re not going to use the pesto immediately, press a piece of plastic against the surface to keep it from oxidizing. The pesto can be stored in the refrigerator for a couple of days or packed airtight and frozen for a couple of months.
      Garlic Scape Dressing
      Ingredients
      • 2 garlic scapes, coarsely chopped
      • 2 green onions, coarsely chopped
      • 1 teaspoon honey
      • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard or similar brown mustard
      • 4 tablespoons red wine vinegar
      • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
      • dash salt
      • 1/8 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
      • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
      Preparation
In a blender, combine the garlic scapes, onions, honey, mustard, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth. With blender on low, slowly add the olive oil until well blended.
      Makes 1 cup.

The Great Scape (Grilled Scapes)
Ingredients

1 bunch scapes
extra virgin olive oil
sea salt
Directions
1.Preheat grill to medium high.
2. Pick through scapes and discard any that are mushy or dried out. Cut off tough ends (as you would with asparagus). Rinse and dry.
3. Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat. Sprinkle with salt.
4. Place scapes on grill and spread out evenly (be careful they don’t fall through!). Close lid and cook for about 3-4 minutes, until they are slightly charred underneath. Flip scapes and continue cooking on the other side until evenly cooked – they should be slightly crunchy still, but not raw!
5. Remove from grill, season to taste (lemon juice is yummy too) and serve.
Optional: Make a dressing out of olive oil, fresh lemon juice, maple syrup and a pinch of sea salt, whisk together. Toss large leaves of radicchio, or other bitter lettuce with dressing, and place grilled scapes on top.

Scape Soup

Ingredients

  • 3 cups garlic scapes, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon thyme leaves or 1?2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup cream
  • salt and pepper
    Directions
Saute the garlic scapes and onion in olive oil over medium heat until soft. Add the thyme at the end.
  • In food processor puree the vegetables and add chicken stock as needed to make a smooth paste.
  • In saucepan heat the vegetable mixture and add remaining chicken broth.
  • Bring to a simmer and add the cream.
  • Season as needed.

Pickled Garlic Scapes

These are easy “refrigerator pickles,” which means they require no heat processing but must be kept in the fridge.

Ingredients

  • About 15 garlic scapes
  • 1 dried chile (optional)
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 4 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
    Preparation
  • Trim the garlic scapes, curl them up, and place them in a pint jar with a tight fitting lid.
  • Work the chile, if you’re using it, into the jar with the garlic scapes.
  • In a small saucepan heat the vinegar, salt, and sugar with 1 cup of water until simmering and salt and sugar are dissolved.
  • Pour the warm vinegar mixture over the garlic scapes to cover them (you may not use all of the vinegar mixture). Seal the jar. Let it sit until cool, then store it in the refrigerator for at least 6 weeks and up to six months.
